Our life expectancy(life span) for 2023 in the U.S. is close to 80 years of age, and even greater than 8 decades of life in many other countrieshttps://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/countries/USA/united-states/life-expectancy. With this in mind and the concept of Health and Wellness becoming more a part of our lives, Health Span(quality of life) becomes important. The leading causes of death in the U.S. are heart disease and cancer. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/leading-causes-of-death.htmMore than the mortality aspect of this fact is the human suffering(quality of life) that may accompany many of us on our life journeys. Perhaps an answer as to how to attain a better Health Span(quality of life) is by adhering to the wise saying that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. But how do we do this? What will it take to get us going in at least a better direction? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), our national public health agency in the U.S., says:  …..we all need to be able to find, understand, and use health information and services.” It goes on to say, “Taking care of our health is part of everyday life, not just when we visit a doctor, clinic, or hospital. ….(This) can help us prevent health problems, protect our health, and better manage our health problems when they arise.” Information, and eventually knowledge, wherever we can find it, may be our beginning to becoming healthier regardless of health problems and age. Since we are all in the “same boat” so to speak, let’s go forward together in what is a universal quest of being healthier to enjoy the benefits that life can offer us.

enjoy life more

Emotional health and wellness need to be included in our quest for a better quality of life. These include addictions, depression, mental trauma, and chronic anxiety, to mention a few. Also, problems such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease can be added to our list of lifelong illnesses that can have modifiable risk factors that can contribute to both health span and life span. Please join me in my quest to be healthier at any age or whatever our health status. Thanks.
